Reports to: Council on Scientific Affairs
Charge: To contribute to the continual
improvement of patient care and safety by: defining and monitoring the
state of the art and emerging technologies in coagulation testing; contributing to the development, maintenance, and enhancement
of effective proficiency testing programs in the field of coagulation; providing information
and expertise in coagulation and related areas to the CAP and its members;
contributing to the continuing education of members of the CAP through Surveys, critiques,
publication of articles, chapters and books and participation in CAP educational
programs; assisting the CAP in timely and effective submission of information
to regulatory agencies; and maintaining liaison with other national and
international
organizations concerned with coagulation.
Number of face-to-face meetings: 3
Length of each meeting: 1 day each
Typical meeting days of the week: Saturday
Location of meetings: Chicago, continental United States,
and one meeting offshore every other year.

- Attendance at CSA Leadership meeting for the Chair
- Attendance at CAP annual Meeting
- Attendance at the International Society of Thrombosis and Haemostasis
annual meeting (for liaison member)
- Attendance at NEQAS annual meeting (for liaison member)
- Professional and statistical oversight of the Coagulation
Surveys Program
- Active in assessing standardization criteria for
coagulation testing
- Contributes to the advancement of coagulation testing
by continually providing scientific information for publication in CAP
TODAY and Archives of Laboratory Medicine
- Monitoring of current coagulation practices, especially
those that could potentially affect patient safety
- Provide educational seminars to CAP members through
annual CAP meeting and Educational Enhancements on CAP Surveys
- Broad knowledge of and desire to promote Pathology
as a specialty and Coagulation as a Subspecialty.
- Enhance knowledge of coagulation testing, administration
of proficiency testing program, operation of CAP, role of other regulatory
agencies
- Opportunities to network with peers in academia
and private practice
- Opportunities to publish scientific and educational
articles
