Charge: This Committee is charged to advance the Laboratory Accreditation Program under the direction of practicing pathologists to be the premier program for the inspection and accreditation of medical laboratories; to assure the at the program meets or exceeds regulatory requirements, incorporates best practices, and promotes continuous quality improvement; and to enhance the recognition of the role of the laboratory director.
Number of face-to-face meetings: 3
Length of each meeting: 1 day
Typical meeting days of the week: Friday
Location of meetings: 1 in Chicago; 2 other locations
Number of conference calls: 1 per month; 2nd Wednesday of Month (1 – 1.5 hours)

Chair is also a member of the Council on Accreditation. Other members may also be CLA Committee Chairs or Regional Commissioners.
- Committee is responsible for providing operational direction of the Laboratory Accreditation Program.
- Additional responsibilities include oversight of the CLA Committees and Regional and State Commissioners.
- The Commission also has the responsibility to elevate accreditation program issues to the Council on Accreditation.
- Good working knowledge of the laboratory accreditation requirements.
- Knowledge of other regulatory requirements such as CLIA regulations is a positive.
- Previous experience as a Regional or State Commissioner is also desired.
- Gain experience in regulatory and accreditation compliance in both anatomic and clinical pathology.
- Opportunity for speaking engagements and accreditation inspections.
