Spring Informatics Conference
Lab InfoTech Summit is a unique three-day conference focusing on information technology for the clinical laboratory and designed for clinical laboratory professionals of all types, including pathologists, medical technologists, laboratory information system managers, and lab business managers. This year the conference will be held at The Venetian Resort in Las Vegas on April 9-11, 2008.

Up to a total of seven (7) conference travel awards will be made available to pathology residents to attend the LabInfo Tech Summit conference. The scope of this new meeting will include LISs, lab portal software, the e-laboratory, e-lab-consulting, and LIS/IVD integration. Please visit http://www.labinfotech.org for conference details.

Award Amount: Recipients will receive complimentary registration and will be reimbursed up to $1,000 for travel expenses.

Purpose: To attend a conference focusing on information technology for the clinical laboratory. It is also designed for clinical laboratory professionals of all types including pathologists, medical technologists, laboratory information systems managers, and lab business managers.

Time Commitment: Three (3) days. Dates TBD

Eligibility
Pathology residents and those in fellowships.  Second year pathology residents are encouraged to apply.  Applicants must be a CAP Junior Member or have an application pending.

Application Guidelines
Applicants are required to submit:

  • Completed Cap Foundation Application Form
  • Curriculum Vitae
  • Narrative Summary (no more than 250 words) containing the following information:
    • A description of their interest in information management.
    • The value of knowledge gained at the conference.
    • Why the CAP Foundation support is necessary to attend the conference.
  • A supporting letter from the residency-training director or Department Chair commenting on:
    • Qualifications of the applicant.
    • Why it is important that the applicant attend the conference.
    • How the new knowledge will be used.

Selection Process
Informatics Travel Stipend recipients are approved by the CAP Foundation Board of Directors based upon the recommendation of a selection committee. Factors to be considered include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • An understanding of the importance of information management to pathology, oncology and bioinformatics
  • Value to the applicant
  • Program Director’s or Department Chair’s recommendation
During the review process, preference will be given to residents who have not received any or only one prior informatics conference stipend.

Follow-up
At the conclusion of the training period, the recipient will be asked to complete a short evaluation form about the experience. Recipients will be asked to share their experiences in writing with others.
