A day to remember

Don't miss the CAP cytopathology sessions on Oct. 15 at the ASCP/CAP Joint Annual Meeting and Exhibits in Washington, DC.

The morning session will consist of a discussion of cases and trends from the CAP Interlaboratory Comparison Program in Nongynecologic Cytopathology. Topics to be covered are effusion cytology (Ann Moriarty, MD), thyroid FNA (Ted Miller, MD) and lymph node aspiration cytology with special emphasis on diagnosis of lymphomas (Nancy Young, MD).

The afternoon session will be on gynecologic cytopathology and will cover Bethesda 2001 and recommendations for followup, as well as updates to the CAP Laboratory Accreditation Program cytopathology checklist with emphasis on the most common deficiencies (Diane Davey, MD). R. Marshall Austin, MD, PhD, will discuss theories on the standard of practice and traditional versus new technology enhancement and limitations, educational notes, and informed consent and duty-to-inform issues with speculation on future legal issues. The last speaker (Dina Mody, MD) will discuss cases from the CAP Pap conventional and liquid-based glass slide programs, with emphasis on glandular lesions.
