Reports to: Council on Membership and Professional Development

Charge: To identify, understand, and address the needs, issues, wants and challenges of newly practicing pathologists (in practice for 0-5 years). To develop benefits/services to facilitate the transformation of the specialty and secure pathologists’ role as the center of the patient health care team. To support pathologists in the first years of practice in recognizing and claiming their leadership role in driving the transformation of the specialty.

Time Commitment Time Commitment

Number of face-to-face meetings: 3
Length of each meeting: 1.5 days
Typical meeting days of the week: Saturday and Sunday

Location of meetings: Various locations throughout the country, usually within 30 miles of the airport. At least one meeting each year is in Chicago.

Number of conference calls: To be determined. Conference calls are scheduled on an ‘as needed’ basis (typically twice each year).

Hours of committee work required outside of meetings:
Member: 24-40 hours per year
Chair: 60-80 hours per year
Vice Chair: 50-60 hours per year

Additional travel or time commitments:

  • Member: 5 hours when involved in special projects
  • Chair: 3 Council meeting and one Council phone conference per year

Expertise or Experience Required Expertise or Experience Required

  • Prefer that members are new in practice (0-5 years in practice)
  • Prefer to have members from a variety of practice sizes and settings (e.g. academia, private – hospital employee or practice group; small, medium or large size settings; pathologists working in an accountable care organization; pathologists in fellowships
  • Willingness to discuss and share challenges and issues new in practice pathologists face
  • Desire to help new in practice pathologists during this crucial time in their careers
