Point of Care Testing Resource Committee

Charge
In order to improve the quality of patient care and safety in physician office laboratories (POLs), in small hospital laboratories, and for point-of-care testing (POCT), the Point of Care Testing Committee will: define and monitor state of the art and emerging technologies; contribute to the development, maintenance, and enhancement of effective proficiency testing and accreditation programs; provide information and expertise to the CAP; contribute to the continuing education of members and laboratorians; provide for the effective submission of information by the CAP to regulatory agencies; and to maintain liaisons where appropriate, with other organizations concerned with point-of-care testing.

Activities and Commitment

Activities of Committee (what the committee actually does in carrying out its responsibilities):

Develop educational activities for the EXCEL program, providing continuing education credits for participants
Oversees the LAP POCT Checklist
Monitors emerging technologies in the area of POC

Time Commitment

Number of face-to-face meetings:
Length of each meeting: Three 1.5 day meetings
Typical meeting days of the week: Saturday and Sunday

Location of meetings: typically within 30 miles of airport.

Number of conference calls: 3-4 per year depending on project assignments, usually 30 to 60 minutes.

Hours of committee work required outside of meetings:
Committee Members 40+ hrs
Vice-Chair 45+ hrs
Committee Chair 60+ hrs
Additional hours, if presenting symposia

Additional travel or time commitments:

Attendance at the CSA Leadership meeting for the Chair.

Expertise or Experience Required

Interest in promoting pathology as a specialty, and Point of Care Testing as a subspecialty
Work with Point of Care Testing situations
An interest in promoting excellence and quality in Point of Care Testing
Desire to promote quality in Point of Care Testing
Ability to communicate with non-pathologists about Point of Care Testing
