Laboratory professionals serve a vital role in the delivery of health care worldwide. To honor your contribution to quality health care, the College of American Pathologists (CAP) is proud to be a sponsor of National Medical Laboratory Professionals Week, April 20-26, 2008.
This year's theme, "Delivering Today's Results for a Healthier Tomorrow," focuses on the tests performed everyday in the laboratory, which help return patients to good health. As those responsible for providing information that other medical professionals need to appropriately care for patients, pathologists and other laboratory staff are an invaluable resource and are the lifeblood of accurate diagnosis. From establishing a diagnosis to monitoring patient health, the accuracy and professionalism of pathologists and other members of the laboratory team are essential.

National Medical Laboratory Professionals Week is an ideal time to communicate
to patients and our clinical partners the vital role that we play each
day in treating patients. The College has put together a special section
on www.cap.org, to help you celebrate and promote National Medical Laboratory
Professionals Week in your institution and within your community. In this
section, you will find a template news release, outreach ideas and more.
I encourage you to use these materials to educate your patients and clinical colleagues about how you and your laboratory staff help care for patients everyday by performing and interpreting tests that save lives and keep people healthy.
