Carmichael Pathologist Elected College of American Pathologists’ President-Elect
National pathologists’ association elects Stephen N. Bauer, MD, FCAP
Northfield, IL.—Stephen N. Bauer, MD, FCAP, of Carmichael, Calif., was sworn in as president-elect of the College of American Pathologists (CAP) on Sept. 29, 2007 at a ceremony held at the College’s annual meeting, CAP ’07 – The Pathologists’ Meeting™.
“I am deeply honored to be selected by my peers for this important position in the College,” said Dr. Bauer. “In this role, I am looking forward to helping to shape the future of pathology as a profession, and contribute to the College’s mission of delivering quality patient care.”
Dr. Bauer is laboratory director at Mercy San Juan Medical Center in Carmichael, Calif., and is a past chief of the Medical Staff. He also is the chief financial officer of Path Labs, Inc. in Carmichael and an assistant clinical professor at University of California, San Francisco.
Most recently, Dr. Bauer served the College as a member of the Board of Governors, and is currently the chair of the CAP Council on Accreditation, as well as a member of the Executive committee. The College honored Dr. Bauer, a Phi Beta Kappa and Alpha Omega Alpha, with its “Pathologist of the Year” award in 1999 and the CAP President’s Honors award in 2006 and 1999. He is a past president of the California Society of Pathologists.
Dr. Bauer graduated with a BA in Medical Sciences and received his medical degree from the University of California, San Francisco, where he also completed his internship and residency. Dr. Bauer is board certified in both anatomic and clinical pathology.
