Charlotte Physician Sworn In as President-Elect of College of American Pathologists
National Pathologists' Association elects Jared N. Schwartz, MD, PhD, FCAP
Northfield, IL.—Jared N. Schwartz, MD, PhD, FCAP, of Charlotte, N.C.,
was sworn in as president-elect of the College of American Pathologists (CAP)
at a ceremony held at CAP '05—the annual meeting of the College of American
Pathologists—in Chicago on Sept. 11, 2005.
" I am honored that my peers have chosen me for this important position in the
College," said Dr. Schwartz. "I am committed to assisting our members with the
changes and challenges that we face in our professional endeavors and to
furthering the College's goal of advancing patient health and wellness."
Dr. Schwartz is the former chief of medical staff and is the current director
of the department of pathology/laboratory medicine at Presbyterian HealthCare
in Charlotte. He is also a member of a number of professional societies,
including the North Carolina Medical Society and the American Medical
Association, among many others.
Dr. Schwartz, a former president of the CAP Foundation, has held positions
within the CAP as a member of its Board of Governors, two-term
secretary-treasurer and chair of the Finance Committee. In addition, he is
currently an inspector through the Laboratory Accreditation Program, a member
of the CAP Spokespersons Network, and a member of the Executive Committee.
Dr. Schwartz received the Herbert Lanksy Memorial Award (1987) and the William
Kuehn Award (1997) from the CAP for his many contributions to the College and
to the profession of pathology. In 2001 the Presbyterian HealthCare Nursing
Service honored him with the Physician Patient Care Award.
Dr. Schwartz received his medical degree and PhD from Duke University, in
Durham, N.C., where he also completed his internship, residency and
fellowship. Dr. Schwartz is board-certified in both anatomic and clinical
pathology, as well as medical microbiology and cytology.
The College of American Pathologists is a
medical society serving nearly 16,000 physician members and the laboratory
community throughout the world. It is the world's largest association composed
exclusively of pathologists and is widely recognized as the leader in
laboratory quality assurance. The CAP is an advocate for high quality and
cost-effective patient care.
