"I am honored that my peers have chosen me for this important position in the College," said Dr. Schwartz. "I am committed to assisting our members with the changes and challenges that we face in our professional endeavors and to furthering the College's goal of advancing patient health and wellness."

Dr. Schwartz, a former president of the CAP Foundation, has held positions within the CAP as a member of its Board of Governors, two-term secretary-treasurer and chair of the Finance Committee. In addition, he is currently an inspector through the Laboratory Accreditation Program, a member of the CAP Spokespersons Network, and a member of the Executive Committee.

Dr. Schwartz received the Herbert Lanksy Memorial Award (1987) and the William Kuehn Award (1997) from the CAP for his many contributions to the College and to the profession of pathology. In 2001 the Presbyterian HealthCare Nursing Service honored him with the Physician Patient Care Award.

Dr. Schwartz received his medical degree and PhD from Duke University, in Durham, N.C., where he also completed his internship, residency and fellowship. Dr. Schwartz is board-certified in both anatomic and clinical pathology, as well as medical microbiology and cytology.
