CAP Transitions SNOMED CT Support Services to IHTSDO
Northfield, IL—The College of American Pathologists’ (CAP), working collaboratively with the International Health Terminology Standards Development Organisation (IHTSDO) transitioned the development, maintenance, and general support services of SNOMED CT to the IHTSDO with the January 2013 release of SNOMED CT. The IHTSDO releases SNOMED CT biannually to ensure that the terminology reflects the latest clinical knowledge and evolving user needs.
“The IHTSDO is grateful for the role that the CAP has played in helping us reach this point,” said Jan-Eric Slot, IHTSDO CEO. “From April 2007, the CAP has provided a service function for SNOMED CT and related products whilst enabling the IHTSDO to focus on establishing a strong infrastructure and business environment internationally; knowing that production of our key product was being managed.”
The CAP, through its Professional Services Group, will continue to deliver services to the standards and terminology community, focusing on clinical information management that includes working with healthcare providers, government agencies, electronic medical record vendors, and middleware suppliers.
“We want our clients to fully leverage the potential of data standardization in the healthcare environment,” said Greg Gleason, CAP’s CIO and Professional Services Vice President. “Our experience in working with the IHTSDO and as the one of the originators of SNOMED CT demonstrate decades of commitment to improved healthcare information.”
Some of CAP Professional Services current projects include:
- Enterprise information strategy development with healthcare provider organizations including assessment and recommendations to improve information collection and enhance information maturity
- Integration of standardized terminologies for representation and interoperability of clinical data
- Standards-based, structured clinical data capture, analysis, and reporting
