The College of American Pathologists Honors Louisiana Pathologist With Outstanding Service Award
Northfield, IL.—R. Bruce Williams, MD, FCAP, of Shreveport, La., was awarded the Outstanding Service Award by the College of American Pathologists (CAP) at a ceremony held on Sept. 29, 2007, in Chicago at CAP ’07 – The Pathologists’ Meeting™.
The award is established in honor of the first president of the College of American Pathologists, Frank W. Hartman, MD. Dr. Williams was presented the award for his extensive contributions to the CAP Laboratory Accreditation Program as state commissioner for Louisiana, South Central regional commissioner, vice chair of the Council on Accreditation, and chair of the Commission on Laboratory Accreditation.
“It is an honor to receive this award from the College,” Dr. Williams said. “I am proud to be a part of an organization that is always looking for ways to enhance the quality of care that can be provided to patients.”
Dr. Williams is an anatomic and clinical pathologist in private practice in Shreveport, La. He is a member of The Delta Pathology Group, LLC and is a clinical associate professor of Pathology at Louisiana State University Health Science Center in Shreveport. Dr. Williams is also currently chair of the CAP Commission on Laboratory Accreditation. Prior to assuming the Commission chair position, he served as the South Central regional commissioner for the Laboratory Accreditation Program for ten years and as state commissioner for Louisiana for eight years.
Dr. Williams received his BA degree in Molecular Biology from Vanderbilt University in Nashville, Tenn. He went on to earn his MD from Vanderbilt University Medical School. Dr. Williams completed his residency at Vanderbilt University Medical Center and at Louisiana State University Medical Center in Shreveport.
