| The College of American Pathologists holds
that the best interests of patients require that a physician member of
the provider team direct the course of the diagnostic and therapeutic
care of the patient and that a physician determine appropriate clinical
and anatomic laboratory services.
The College also holds that each individual pathologist or pathology
group should make its own determination of whether to receive requests
for diagnostic laboratory studies from non-physicians based on applicable
state law, medical staff bylaws, and other relevant considerations.
