Senate Passes 5–Month SGR Fix With 2.2% Update
CMS Begins Processing Claims with 21% Cut Today;
House Takes Up Issue Next Week

Senate leaders have reached an agreement that will delay the 21.3% Medicare physician payment cut as defined by the Sustainable Growth Rate (SGR) until Nov. 30. In addition, this bipartisan provision—approved by unanimous consent in the Senate today—will provide a 2.2% SGR update retroactive to June 1 through the end of November.

Approval by the House of Representatives is needed for implementation. The House is out of session today and will take up the measure next week. In the meantime, however, CMS’s hold on processing claims is now expired. Beginning today, Medicare claims will be processed with the 21% cut without another extension from the agency.

CAP is continuing to work with Congressional and regulatory leaders to resolve this urgent issue.
