Anatomic Pathology Patient Information Sheets

Updated April 18, 2008

The College of American Pathologists has created new anatomic pathology patient information sheets for members to download and attach to their pathology reports to help patients better understand their diagnosis.

The sheets address such issues as “how does the pathologist make the diagnosis?” and “what questions should I ask my doctor?” Each sheet also provides a glossary of terms, as well as images of diseased and normal tissues. The sheets focus on some of the most common histologic types and are written with the patient in mind.

Members can either download all of the sheets at once (Zip, 16.2 MB), or individual sheets by clicking on an individual topic below. Once downloaded and printed, they can be attached to the pathology reports, adding value to both the clinician and the patient.

The sheets are also available to the public through, as additional resources for them to access when faced with a cancer diagnosis or a diagnosis of a cancer-related condition. They are featured in html, pdf and Microsoft Word formats, for ease of access.

All of the sheets were developed by the Public Affairs Committee, in conjunction with the Council on Scientific Affairs and the Cancer Committee.
