AP109  Radiologic and Pathologic Correlation of Breast Imaging Abnormalities of Breast Needle Core Biopsy

8:00–11:30 am
3.0 CME CREDITS

System Based Practice Patient Care

Optimal management of patients with breast lesions requires a multidisciplinary approach. As the number of image-guided biopsies increases for screen-detected breast imaging abnormalities, an integrated approach to pathologic and radiologic findings may significantly reduce unnecessary surgical procedures and/or reduce the delay in the diagnosis of some significant lesions. While radiologists already have a system in place to follow up on and track patients as mandated by ACR and Mammography Quality Standards Act (MQSA), pathologists can still play an active role. Faculty will discuss the Breast Imaging Reporting and Data System (BI-RADS), challenges in determining correlation, and appropriate patient management/follow-up when radiologic-pathologic findings are incongruent.
