3:00–4:30 pm
1.5 CME CREDITS

Interpersonal and Communication Skills Practice-Based Learning and Improvement Transformation

This session bases its curriculum on the multiyear quest in one of the largest hospital-based laboratories in the US to create a Lean culture, where an empowered workforce of over 500 views its workplace as an opportunity to do the work better in pursuit of a “zero defect” performance goal. The course will cover the principles, work tools and rules, leadership, management, and worker requirements for effective implementation. Faculty will illustrate laboratory management and manufacturing-based quality improvement techniques that foster patient safety through targeted reduction in process defects and waste, increased productivity, and employee and customer satisfaction
