9:30–11:30 am
2.0 CME/CE CREDITS

Practice-Based Learning and Improvement System Based Practice

Recent federal efforts aimed at increasing physician use of electronic health record (EHR) systems have significant implications for pathologists and laboratories. New regulations define criteria for “meaningful use” of certified EHRs that physician practices must meet to qualify for payment incentives and avoid future penalties. This course will distill the federal policies that aim to increase the adoption of EHRs by health care providers and examine their potential impact on laboratories. Discussion will include points for laboratories to consider as they prepare to meet the needs and expectations of providers and clients who are implementing EHRs.
