NEW  VM107  Practical Tips for Diagnosing Difficult Melanocytic Lesions: What We Know, What We Don’t Know, and What to Do Next

2:00–4:00 pm
2.0 CME CREDITS

Patient Care Medical Knowledge

Pigmented lesions are among the most common, problematic cases evaluated by pathologists and dermatopathologists. This Video Microscopy Tutorial will emphasize a practical approach to evaluating such lesions and focus on known difficult differential diagnoses (eg, deep penetrating nevus, blue nevi variants, Spitzoid lesions, and combined lesions). Case examples will cover how to recognize subtle clues, which can point to cases that may be more problematic than they first appear. This course will include a discussion of the problems with under- and over-diagnosis of melanoma, as well as examples of where molecular studies, histochemical or immunoperoxidase stains, sentinel node biopsy, or other next steps that can help.
