Bone marrow evaluation often follows abnormal peripheral blood findings; thus, this course complements CP100 Practical Challenges in Peripheral Blood Smear Evaluation, which will take place on September 9. A similar case-based approach will introduce a range of timely topics, emphasizing key updates in the pathobiology and classification of bone marrow pathologies while simultaneously reviewing essential elements of standard morphologic review. In particular, discussion will focus on benign entities that mimic neoplastic processes and changes in classification criteria for neoplastic disorders. Faculty will discuss appropriate utilization of immunohistochemical, flow cytometric, FISH, cytogenetic, and molecular analyses for entities such as marrow fibrosis, aplasia, myelodysplasia, plasma cell myeloma, and lymphocytic infiltrates. This course will interest anyone involved in bone marrow evaluation, including those without specialized hematopathology training. Following this session, participants may complete a related online self-assessment module, available through December 31, 2012. More details will be provided in the course.
