AP120 Molecular Hematopathology in the Era of Personalized Medicine

This course focuses on the role of molecular evaluation in the diagnosis, prognosis, and therapeutic implications in the assessment of patients with hematolymphoid malignancies. Presenting a critical evaluation of techniques and the potential impact on patient care, faculty will share practical information regarding when to initiate testing and choice of assay and instrument platforms. Discussion will include the technical performance of these assays, interpretations of results, and application of these tests to patient care. Lastly, faculty will address the impact of new technologic platforms, including aCGH and next-generation sequencing on molecular diagnostics.
You will learn to:
- Describe the appropriate diagnostic and prognostic value of specific molecular diagnostic tests in the evaluation of hematolymphoid neoplasms
- Explain the appropriate role of molecular testing in evaluation of patients with myeloproliferative disorders, acute myeloid leukemias and aggressive B-cell lymphomas
- Discuss novel technologic platforms and their potential role in discovery of diagnostic, prognostic, and therapeutic markers
