NEW AP130 Practical Prognostication for Head and Neck Neoplasia
8:00–11:30 am
3.0 CME CREDITS

Head and neck pathology is a relatively small field compared to other specialties. Yet it hosts a vast array of benign and malignant tumors that necessitate ever-expanding classification schemata for correct diagnosis and prognostication.
In this course, you will learn about:
- Rationale for and practical application of the risk model for oral squamous cell carcinomas
- Histologic evaluation and potential pitfalls for resection margin assessment
- Why human papillomavirus (HPV) has become an important determinant for patients with oropharyngeal carcinoma, and why p16 has become an important prognosticator independent of HPV
- How to accurately identify and grade high- and low-grade salivary duct carcinoma, mucoepidermoid carcinoma, and carcinoma ex pleomorphic adenoma
You will learn to:
- Differentiate poor and good prognosticators for head and neck squamous cell carcinomas
- Correctly assess resection margins
- Correctly identify and grade salivary tumors
