Laboratory directors and clinical microbiologists are likely to be the first to encounter a new bioterrorism event. Though it has been more than 10 years since the anthrax bioterrorism outbreak, is your microbiology laboratory prepared? In this course, you will review the guidelines for basic microbiology laboratories (ie, sentinel laboratories), including a review of Class A and Class B bioterrorism agents. Faculty will provide an analysis of the bioterrorism Laboratory Preparedness Exercises (CAP, CDC, and APHL), describing how the average laboratory manages potential bioterrorism agents.
