The demands on the practicing pathologist continue to increase, and your ability to embrace technology, in the face of smaller biopsies and molecular testing, may determine your viability as a diagnostician. In many cases, the obstacle for pathologists in adopting new technologies resides in not knowing what currently is available or emerging that will supplement or supplant existing practice norms. Faculty will present multiple case vignettes across several disciplines, including melanoma, breast cancer, and colon cancer, to outline how pathologists can apply current and emerging technologies in solving problems they experience today and in the future. The course will cover specific applications from specimen sampling to pathology reporting that show great potential in improving efficiency and patient outcomes—not to mention make your colleagues happy at tumor board.
You will learn to:
- Apply new technologies that augment or replace current methods to improve patient diagnoses and/or pathologists’ workflow
- Discuss specific applications of emerging technologies that help guide appropriate tissue sampling, determine optimal specimens for cancer testing, and guide therapy decisions
- Demonstrate the pathologist’s critical role in diagnosing and recommending treatment using emerging technologies to your clinical colleagues
