Recent federal efforts aimed at increasing physician use of electronic health record (EHR) systems have significant implications for pathologists and laboratories. New regulations define “meaningful use” and “certification” EHR criteria, which physician practices and hospitals must meet to qualify for payment incentives and to avoid future penalties. This course distills the federal policies that aim to increase EHR adoption and examines their potential impact on laboratories. Faculty will discuss the latest regulatory developments and also provide pointers for laboratories preparing to meet the needs and expectations of providers and clients who are implementing EHRs. Following this session, participants may complete a related online self-assessment module, available through December 31, 2012. More details will be provided in the course.
