VM103 Non-HP Gastritis and Gastric Polyps: A Practical Review

Physicians routinely perform gastroscopies in the management of patients complaining of dyspepsia and abdominal pain. Consequently, a major part of the routine practice of pathology includes the evaluations of gastric biopsies to rule out classification of various forms of gastritis and unexpected gastric polyps. This exercise can be difficult because of a significant overlap in the histologic features between various types of gastritis. Furthermore, the exact classification of gastric polyps also challenges pathologists. Using a case-based approach in this video microscopy tutorial, discussion will include iatrogenic gastritis, lymphocytic gastritis, collagenous colitis, granulomatous gastritis, gastric manifestations of inflammatory bowel disease (IBD), hyperplastic polyp, gastric adenoma, pyloric gland adenoma, and inflammatory fibroid polyp.

Understand the different pathogenic processes at play in various non-H. pylori gastritis
Integrate clinical and endoscopic information during the diagnostic process
Explain the importance of collecting full clinical information
