Pigmented lesions are among the most common, problematic cases that pathologists and dermatopathologists evaluate. This video microscopy tutorial takes a practical approach to evaluating such lesions and focuses on known difficult differential diagnoses (eg, Spitzoid tumors, desmoplastic melanoma, and nevoid melanoma). Through case examples you will learn to recognize subtle clues that may reveal cases that may be more problematic than they first appear. Faculty also will discuss issues associated with the underdiagnosis and overdiagnosis of melanoma and will provide examples when molecular studies, histochemical or immunoperoxidase stains, sentinel node biopsy, or other next steps can help.
