Diffuse malignant mesothelioma is a rare malignant neoplasm with a dismal prognosis, the diagnosis of which carries serious medical and legal consequences. Its rarity, variable histology, and similarity to other lesions, both neoplastic and nonneoplastic, are significant challenges to its accurate diagnosis. Pathologists must be able to accurately diagnose diffuse malignant mesothelioma and distinguish it from its neoplastic and nonneoplastic mimickers. This video microscopy tutorial will address the variable histologic and immunohistochemical features of diffuse malignant mesothelioma and its mimickers.
