AP100  A Pattern-Based Approach to Diagnosis of Nonneoplastic Lung Disease

Sunday, October 13
9:30–11:30 AM
2.5 CME/SAM CREDITS

CAP SAMs Medical Knowledge

This course provides a framework for approaching the surgical lung biopsy in patients with diffuse parenchymal lung disease (“interstitial lung disease”) and emphasizes the critical importance of clinical and radiological data in the assessment of lung histopathology. The presenter will address establishing a differential diagnosis using the clinical tempo of disease and CT findings, and then present and correlate six histopathologic patterns of disease with the clinical and imaging data to arrive at a differential diagnosis and favored diagnosis among limited possibilities. The course will include classic examples in detail, as well as diagnostic challenge cases for self assessment. Participants should have basic knowledge of lung anatomy and the ability to recognize the histopathologic elements of inflammatory reactions. Following this session, participants may complete a related online self-assessment module, available at cap.org through December 31, 2013.
