NEW  CP109  Practical Approach to Peripheral Blood Smear Evaluation

Monday, October 14
2:00–4:00 PM
2.0 CME/CE CREDITS

Medical Knowledge Patient Care

Review of the peripheral blood smear can provide important diagnostic insights into a variety of bone marrow and systemic disorders. It also plays a key role when abnormalities are detected by complete blood count (CBC). Faculty will present diagnostic algorithms for peripheral blood evaluation of anemias, other cytopenias (eg, thrombocytopenia, leukopenia, neutropenia), and leukocytosis, including integrating the clinical history and available laboratory test results. In some cases, additional evaluation is necessary to determine an underlying etiology for the CBC and blood smear findings. This session will also feature clinical situations for which additional laboratory tests and/or pathology evaluation should be recommended.
