NEW  CP112  Pathologists Are Coagulation Consultants: Performance Enhancement for the Hemostasis Laboratory

Wednesday, October 16
8:00–11:30 AM
3.75 CME/SAM CREDITS

CAP SAMs Medical Knowledge Patient Care

Pathologists overseeing hemostasis laboratories are consultants to physicians, who are challenged by the complexity of hemostasis pathophysiology and laboratory testing. Case-based clinical scenarios will provide a springboard for a discussion of 1) the clinical and laboratory diagnosis of von Willebrand disease, 2) the utility of laboratory tests in trauma, cardiac surgery, and acute hemorrhage, and 3) the role of pathologists can play in implementing coagulation panels and consultative reports. Participants will learn the usefulness, interpretation, and limitations of hemostasis testing. The faculty will provide a framework that will guide laboratory improvements and consultation practices and will allow time to answer participants’ questions. Following this session, participants may complete a related online self-assessment module, available at cap.org through December 31, 2013.
