PM103  The Pathologist at the Helm: Data-Driven Decision Support With the Numbers and the Inner Compass

Monday, October 14
8:00–11:30 AM
3.0 CME CREDITS

System Based Practice Practice-Based Learning and Improvement

For current and future captains or officers of the laboratory ship, the wide range of decisions with potential disastrous consequences that clinical laboratories face can prove worrisome. Find important skills in this course to ensure you develop and deploy solid tools and plans to navigate potential disasters. As a captain of a ship uses a control panel to navigate, a laboratory director (LD) uses a dashboard to monitor activity. You’ll practice developing an LD or section head dashboard with gauges, warning lights, monitors, and navigation aids that include fiscal performance, quality and safety, process and efficiency, and strategic plans. Faculty will examine “off-course” scenarios to practice using dashboard data to recognize and respond from the bridge. This engaging session will also review the navigation skills of strategic planning with emphasis on execution, even within diverse teams crossing organizational boundaries. Discussion will also include leadership and cultural habits important within organizations.
