INTRODUCTION

What is “Transformation?”
The ultimate goal of the CAP’s effort is to create an enhanced and evolved role for the pathologist over the next generation as well as greater recognition as a physician actively involved on the patient care team.

Pathologists provide direct patient care through diagnostic test selection, performance, interpretation, and direction on optimal therapy options to patients and to clinicians. Pathologists assure the quality of lab tests and collect, survey, analyze and use patient population clinical results to guide therapy, best practice and safety for patients and patient populations.

As health care changes quickly and on all fronts, Pathologists must step up and embrace transformation, pursue new roles in the workplace, and re-position themselves as the center of the clinical care team.

This is an urgent call to action and we must take action now. If Pathologists are to survive, we must adapt. And the CAP will help you get there.

The nature of disease and disease treatment is changing. Therefore, the needs of the patient and the patient's treating physician are changing. Today, trial and error medicine is no longer acceptable - emerging diagnostics are more efficient and accurate.

Pathologists must have an understanding of their changing role - they must NOT be defined by the tools they use. We have a bright future as researchers/innovators, test providers, interpreters, clinical data integrators, clinical consultants, business developers and practice leaders.
