  Advanced Training Elective in
  Molecular Diagnostics

Award Amount: To support travel and living expenses for the training period up to $2,000. It is expected that the recipients’ own institution will continue to provide for salary and benefits during the award period.

Purpose: To provide adequate time for residents to acquaint themselves with the technology in molecular pathology and FISH. This grant is available within the United States and Canada only. Applications will not be funded for training electives which are completed or begun before notification of the award.

Time Commitment: Four (4) weeks.

Eligibility: Pathology residents and those in fellowships. Applicants must be a CAP Junior Member or have an application pending.

Selection Process:

  • Need: technology is not available as needed at the applicant’s institution


  • Scientific merit of the application: future use of technology


  • Value to the applicant


  • Letter of Recommendation

Application Guidelines. Applicants are required to submit the following information:

  1. Completed Application Form
    (PDF 26 K | Word 249 K)


  2. Curriculum Vitae


  3. Name of the training program, and the name and location of the laboratory where you would like to pursue training.


  4. Narrative Summary — no more than 500 Word Formats


  5. Supporting letter from the home institution’s residency program training director or department chair


  6. Supporting letter from the director of the laboratory at the host institute where the training will take place
