Commission on Laboratory Accreditation



To advance the Laboratory Accreditation Program under the direction of practicing pathologists to be the premier program for the inspection and accreditation of medical laboratories; to assure the at the program meets or exceeds regulatory requirements, incorporates best practices, and promotes continuous quality improvement; and to enhance the recognition of the role of the laboratory director.

Meeting locations One meeting takes place in Chicago and the others take place in two other locations.

Additional travel or time commitments The chair is also a member of the Council on Accreditation. Other members may also be Commission on Laboratory Accreditation committee chairs or regional commissioners.

Activities of Committee

  • Committee is responsible for providing operational direction of the laboratory accreditation program.
  • Additional responsibilities include oversight of the Commission on Laboratory Accreditation committees and regional and state commissioners.
  • The Commission also has the responsibility to elevate accreditation program issues to the Council on Accreditation.

Expertise or Experience

  • Good working knowledge of the laboratory accreditation requirements
  • Knowledge of other regulatory requirements such as Clinical Laboratory Improvement Amendments regulations is a positive
  • Previous experience as a regional or state commissioner is also desired
