Advocacy Update: March 26, 2024
On March 21, CAP President Donald Karcher, MD, FCAP, provided testimony to the House Energy and Commerce Subcommittee on Health during a hearing entitled “Evaluating Approaches to Diagnostic Test Regulation and the Impact of FDA’s Proposed Rule.” Dr. Karcher firmly stated the CAP’s opposition to the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) proposed regulation on the oversight of laboratory-developed tests (LDTs) and advocated for policy solutions that target full regulation of only the highest risk LDTs.

AMA Physician Practice Information Survey
The American Medical Association (AMA) Physician Practice Information Survey is underway, and we urgently need all selected physicians to actively engage in this effort. The intent of the survey, which has been endorsed by over 170 medical societies and other health care associations, is to collect updated and accurate data on practice costs which are a key element of physician payment. These data have not been updated since last collected over 15 years ago and it is critically important to update these data to ensure accurate payment.
Physicians should complete the survey and urge their practices to do the same. Practices will be contacted by mail and email. Visit the AMA for more information on the Physician Practice Information Survey.
Practice Data
To fight for your interests, we must stay in touch with you on the issues that matter most. That's why our advocacy efforts are informed by ongoing research and comprehensive surveys of pathology practices.
The CAP's Policy Roundtable provides timely, well-researched, and objective policy analysis to advance the specialty and address changes in the health care system that affect pathology and pathologists' ability to provide benefits to patients. Learn more about our Pathology Practice Survey work.
