CAP Inspector Vaccination Requirements

Communication Date: December 14,2021

NOTE: The information below was current at the time of communication. Subsequent CAP changes, if applicable, are not reflected in this eAlert.

We appreciate your contributions to the College of American Pathologists’ Laboratory Accreditation Programs as an inspector. As you may be aware, the CAP, along with other member organizations of the Cancer Leadership Council, issued a statement in August calling on all health professionals to be fully inoculated against COVID-19. At the recent November meeting, the CAP Board of Governors approved the following vaccination requirements for inspectors:

Domestic

  • We will require all CAP inspectors planning to conduct an in-person inspection to be prepared to provide evidence of vaccination, if asked, to the laboratory upon arrival.
  • CAP inspectors who are not vaccinated have the option to fulfill their biennial inspection requirement by conducting a virtual inspection. Inspection teams that decline an assignment of an in-person inspection due to vaccination status may be reassigned to inspect a laboratory requesting a virtual inspection.

International

  • We will require all CAP inspectors planning an international inspection tour to submit evidence of vaccination to be kept on file at the CAP offices and available to CAP staff prior to making any travel arrangements.
  • CAP staff will initiate the submission process.

We appreciate your role in keeping CAP inspections safe for all. If you have any questions, please contact us at accred@cap.org.
