Northfield, IL—Pamela Mix was promoted to senior vice president, communications, governance and human resources of the College of American Pathologists (CAP), the leading organization of board-certified pathologists that serves patients, pathologists, and the public by fostering and advocating excellence in the practice of pathology and laboratory medicine worldwide.

Mix joined the CAP in 2003 as vice president of human resources and was promoted to vice president of governance and human resources in 2006. In her 17 years with the organization, she has been instrumental in continuously improving work culture and member experience, creating a strong employer value proposition, and strengthening the organization’s ability to attract, develop and retain talent.

“Many people lauded the CAP as a great place to work. At the same time, leadership also sought shifts in strategy and culture to sustain our position in an increasingly competitive environment,” says Mix. “We moved carefully to understand and preserve what makes the organization great, and evolved things that allowed us to compete more effectively. I’m proud we’ve been able to preserve and build on the CAP’s strong track record of success while preparing and leading the organization to successfully navigate dramatic changes in the industry.”

Under Mix’s leadership, the CAP has been honored as a Chicago Tribune Top Workplace and a Companies That Care’s socially responsible workplace.

“Continuing to build on this commitment, and to include and empower as many employees and members as possible along the way, is key to our ongoing success,” says Mix. “[These honors] are byproducts of successful continuous improvement.”

Mix has a B.A. in Sociology and French from Carthage College and an M.S. in Positive Organization Development and Change the Weatherhead School of Management at Case Western Reserve University.
