2026 CAP Distinguished Service Award

Bobbi S. Pritt, MD, MSc, FCAP

Dr. Pritt is nominated for exceptional leadership and sustained service to the CAP, having strengthened the CAP’s scientific leadership, advanced innovation, and improved patient safety.

As chair of the CAP’s largest council—the Council on Scientific Affairs (CSA), comprising 28 scientific committees—Dr. Pritt oversaw PT innovation that launched multiple new programs across several disciplines, many in response to evolving regulatory requirements and emerging laboratory needs.

A signature contribution during Dr. Pritt’s tenure as CSA chair was her leadership on engaging with the FDA to highlight patient safety risks associated with outdated AST breakpoints maintained in laboratory instrument labeling. This work contributed to the FDA’s nonbinding guidance, Antimicrobial Susceptibility Test (AST) System Devices—Updating Breakpoints in Device Labeling, exemplifying Dr. Pritt’s ability to translate scientific evidence into regulatory impact that improves patient care.

While chairing the CAP Microbiology Committee within the CSA, Dr. Pritt led the CAP’s rapid response to the emergence of SARS-CoV-2. The Committee developed PT for molecular, serologic, and antigen testing as laboratories implemented new assays, and delivered rapid, just-in-time education and practical guidance for members, laboratories, and patients on COVID-19 testing during a period of significant uncertainty.

As chair of the Information Technology Leadership Committee (ITLC), Dr. Pritt guided the CAP’s technology strategy during a period of rapid digital transformation. Notable accomplishments included leading a strategic review of the MyCAP mobile application—resulting in a Board-approved recommendation to transition from a custom-coded solution to an industry-standard software-as-a-service platform—and chairing the ITLC Generative AI Project Team to provide national leadership on the responsible adoption of generative artificial intelligence (AI) in pathology.

Through distinguished service and results-driven leadership, Dr. Pritt has advanced laboratory quality, strengthened evidence-based advocacy, improved patient safety, and positioned the CAP as a leader in scientific and technological innovation. She is richly deserving of the CAP Distinguished Service Award.

Dr. Pritt is a professor of laboratory medicine and pathology at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota.
