Dorothy M. Adcock, MD, FCAP
Dr. Adcock is nominated for her sustained commitment to educating pathologists through multiple media. An internationally respected physician-educator, she has more than three decades of excellence in teaching, scholarship, and organizational leadership. Her educational influence includes academic appointments, invited lectures worldwide, guideline development, and peer-reviewed scholarship—consistently characterized by scientific rigor and practical application.
A cornerstone of Dr. Adcock’s educational leadership is her longstanding service to the CAP as an author and inspector, as well as her contributions across multiple councils and committees. Her work has shaped continuing education, proficiency testing, practice guidelines, and laboratory quality standards—advancing the CAP mission to promote excellence in laboratory medicine education and patient care while ensuring that our educational resources remain clinically relevant and evidence-based.
As chair of the CAP Publications Committee, Dr. Adcock led significant process improvements that strengthened both the quality and strategic value of CAP educational publications. Under her direction, the Committee implemented an annual content review to assess applicability, accuracy, and relevance, ensuring materials remained current and aligned with evolving learner needs. She also developed and led a publications “roadshow” that engaged councils and committees to discuss, promote, and integrate publication resources across the organization, increasing collaboration and expanding the reach and influence of published content. In addition, she led a comprehensive strategic plan with three-year goals, objectives, and implementation plans to support continuity, accountability, and sustained direction for Publications Committee initiatives.
Through her teaching, scholarship, and leadership, Dr. Adcock has elevated education standards and strengthened the infrastructure that supports lifelong learning in laboratory medicine.
Dr. Adcock is the retired chief medical officer at LabCorp in Burlington, North Carolina.
