Direct Transmission with LabgnosticPT

LabgnosticPT supports automated ordering and submission of CAP PT results through a workflow designed to mirror laboratory patient-testing processes. The service connects with a laboratory information system (LIS) or interface engine, transforms result data, and sends it to CAP systems for laboratory review and final submission.

Review Technical Requirements

How it works

  • When proficiency testing samples are shipped, LabgnosticPT automatically sends the order to the LIS.
  • Results are sent from the LIS to LabgnosticPT through an interface.
  • LabgnosticPT transforms the result data and sends it to CAP systems.
  • The laboratory reviews and completes final submission through CAP’s CLIA-compliant proficiency testing service.

Technical fit

  • Transfer protocols typically include MLLP, SFTP, or HTTPS.
  • The most-used messaging format is HL7 v2.x. LabgnosticPT can build a customized interface when an LIS implementation has specific order and result interface requirements.
  • The service is designed to use the laboratory’s existing LIS synthetic-patient test configuration and existing test configuration without special test setup or customization.

Current data scope

  • Automated submission applies only to observations from CAP proficiency testing samples.
  • Patient data is not included.
  • Automated submission is currently limited to quantitative observations transferred from an automated instrument to the LIS.
  • Qualitative capabilities are under development.

Security and service

  • LabgnosticPT is a web-based service hosted in Microsoft Azure.
  • Access is protected by Microsoft Azure Web Application Firewall and supports rate limiting, API-key authentication and authorization, or private networking with IP allow listing.
  • The technical source states that X-Lab is compliant with GDPR (UK), HIPAA, and the Privacy Act 1988.

Onboarding and support

  • White-glove onboarding service.
  • Dedicated account manager for ongoing relationship management.
  • Support for adding PT programs, providers, or analyzers.
  • Regular service reviews and utilization planning.
  • Access to the LabgnosticPT support desk, knowledge base, and issue support.

frequently asked questions LabgnosticPT FAQs

Yes. LabgnosticPT is a fully managed, web-based SaaS application hosted in Microsoft Azure. X-Lab manages regular updates, improvements, and routine security patching. There is no software version for the laboratory to install or maintain. If planned downtime is required, advance notice will be provided, and release notes are published.

Manual result entry in the CAP portal remains available as a backup. If an issue occurs on the laboratory side or within LabgnosticPT, the laboratory can enter results manually. If an issue occurs on the CAP side, LabgnosticPT stores the results it receives and sends them when the CAP service becomes available again.

The CAP-to-LabgnosticPT interface is tested and live. During onboarding, laboratories can use synthetic orders to test LIS configuration and messaging. An onboarding manager guides the testing workflow and supports setup of the first subscriptions.

The LabgnosticPT portal provides a downloadable CSV template. If an LIS export cannot be placed into that format, X-Lab can assist with conversion.

Laboratory administrative staff can maintain these data points in the LabgnosticPT portal. Referring and location codes can use the configuration required by the laboratory and its LIS.

No. The technical requirements specify that automated submission does not include patient data.

Automated submission is currently limited to quantitative observations transferred from an automated instrument to the LIS. Qualitative result capabilities are under development.
