2023 CAP Staff Outstanding Achievement Award

The College of American Pathologists (CAP) established the CAP Staff Outstanding Achievement Award in 2015 to recognize employees whose contributions during their career have greatly impacted and supported the growth and improvement of the College of American Pathologists, including its staff, its members, and patients.

Caroline Maurer, MT (ASCP), PMP

The College of American Pathologists presents Caroline Maurer, MT (ASCP), PMP, with the 2023 CAP Staff Outstanding Achievement Award in recognition of her exceptional contributions to the CAP, the organization’s membership and customers, and the CAP15189 accreditation program.

In 2002, Caroline joined the CAP as a technical specialist, bringing 18 years of executive experience in laboratory and diagnostic services operations. In 2007, Caroline led the development of the CAP15189 program and was appointed director in 2009 after the program’s successful rollout. As the program director, she has demonstrated unwavering dedication, innovation, and leadership skills. The program has continued to grow and evolve, thanks to her innovative mindset and leadership.

Caroline’s leadership skills were evident during the height of the COVID-19 pandemic, when her flexibility and dedication helped safeguard the value proposition of the voluntary accreditation program. Caroline’s guidance in converting to a 100% virtual global assessment model secured business continuity by avoiding delays in assessments and minimizing burden to customer laboratories. Her efforts have seen the program grow by over 25%. In addition, Caroline's innovative mindset and leadership helped facilitate a successful response to the changing needs of the 80+ laboratories accredited by the CAP15189 program within and outside the United States.

Furthermore, Caroline’s skill in project management has been instrumental in the success of the CAP15189 program. A certified project management professional, Caroline also has excellent interpersonal skills that have enabled her to foster effective dialog and collaboration, drawing people from all levels and across all CAP committees to be a part of CAP15189's success. Her patience, caring, and cheerful drive have consistently contributed to the satisfaction of customers. Caroline has worked tirelessly to ensure the program's success during the tenure of each one of its CAP member chairs.
