A. Joe Saad, MD, CPE, FCAP, is a board-certified anatomic and clinical pathologist, and cytopathologist. He is chair of pathology and director of anatomic pathology at the Methodist Health System in Dallas, Texas, president of medical staff at Methodist Dallas Medical Center (MDMC), and medical director of Surgical Pathologists of Dallas, Prism Pathology, and the MDMC laboratory. Dr. Saad also is an adjunct associate professor of pathology at the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center and has been in private practice for 31 years.
Dr. Saad earned both his bachelor of science and medical degrees from the American University of Beirut in Lebanon. He completed a research fellowship at Veterans Administration Medical Center in West Roxbury, Massachusetts, his general surgery internship at The Union Memorial Hospital in Baltimore, Maryland, an anatomic and clinical pathology residency at the University of Texas Medical Branch in Galveston, Texas, and his cytopathology fellowship at Baylor College of Medicine in Houston, Texas.
Dr. Saad has published more than three dozen peer-reviewed articles and abstracts. Additional recognitions for Dr. Saad include Presidential Awards from the Texas Society of Pathologists (TSP) in 2007, 2008 and 2010, and its prestigious Caldwell Award in 2017.
Dr. Saad is active in several medical and pathology organizations, including the American Society for Clinical Pathology, the United States and Canadian Academy of Pathology, and the American Medical Association. He is a past president of the TSP, the North Texas Society of Pathology, and the Texas Society of Cytology. For five years, Dr. Saad also chaired the TSP’s council on legislation. He previously served on the Dallas County Medical Society’s (DCMS) board of directors. He now serves on the legislative councils of DCMS and the Texas Medical Association (TMA) and is a TMA delegate.
As a fellow of the College of American Pathologists (CAP), Dr. Saad has been an active member of many councils and committees and the House of Delegates, serving as a Texas delegate for many years, and earning the CAP’s 2018 Public Service Award.
He was elected to the Board of Governors in 2020, is now serving his second term on the Board, and chairs the Council on Government and Professional Affairs and the Audit Committee.
