The physician workforce shortage is growing, and Congress has an opportunity to help.
- Only a handful of CAP members have taken action on this issue so far this year.
- Let’s make sure Congress doesn’t lose sight of legislation that can help strengthen the physician and pathology workforce.
What you should know:
- With the Medicare population increasing, the United States could face a shortage of up to 86,000 physicians in the coming years.
- Demand for pathologists is also rising, with CAP projections estimating a need for 700 to 840 new pathologists each year.
The CAP is urging Congress to pass:
- The Conrad State 30 and Physician Access Reauthorization Act (S.709/H.R.1585)
- The Specialty Physicians Advancing Rural Care (SPARC) Act (S.1380/H.R.4681)
- The Resident Education Deferred Interest (REDI) Act (S.942/.H.R.2028)
- The Resident Physician Shortage Reduction Act (S.2439/H.R.4731)
The bottom line: Your voice can help keep these bills on Congress’ radar. Together, we can help ensure a strong path forward for future pathologists— and patients’ continued access to high-quality care.
