Not every laboratory that applies for accreditation from the College of American Pathologists (CAP) walks away with a perfect record. A zero-deficiency result means every category CAP inspectors evaluate, records, quality control, staffing, equipment, facilities, safety, and management, met the standard without a single gap.
That is the outcome Illinois Dermatology Institute (IDI) announced today for its diagnostic laboratory, which passed its latest on-site CAP inspection, conducted August 24, 2026, without a single deficiency for another accreditation cycle.
CAP’s accreditation process is peer-driven: inspectors are practicing pathologists and laboratory professionals themselves, reviewing a facility’s operations firsthand rather than relying on self-reported checklists.
