Advocacy Update

The CDC is encouraging laboratories to participate in its next-generation National Healthcare Safety Network (NHSN) Hemovigilance Module to help the agency monitor transfusion-related adverse reactions and supports national surveillance efforts.

The next-generation module streamlines the reporting process through a simplified annual facility survey, a consolidated adverse reaction investigation form, and a rapid alert process for transfusion-transmitted infections.

The CDC says participation can help facilities track transfusion safety, support rapid investigation of potential transfusion-transmitted infections, and contribute to nationwide estimates of serious adverse reactions.
