Established in 2010, the CAP Resident of the Year Award recognizes a CAP Junior Member who has made outstanding contributions to the specialty of pathology, pathologists, laboratory medicine, and/or the general public.
Marcos Lepe, MD
The College of American Pathologists presents Marcos Lepe, MD, with the 2017 CAP Resident of the Year Award in recognition of his leadership contributions in numerous areas, such as service to the CAP, to patients, and to the general public. Dr. Lepe is extremely active on social media, including Twitter, where he has more than 1,400 followers and shares interesting cases, board preparation tips, and lively conversation among pathologists. He serves on the Archives of Pathology & Laboratory Medicine's editorial board as the social media section editor.
The embodiment of a motivated and enthusiastic pathologist, Dr. Lepe was also one of the few residents to be named to The Pathologist magazine's 2016 PowerList, which highlights stars in the field of pathology. He is passionate about making sure medical students and observers who spend time in his department have a positive experience, ensuring the best and brightest can be drawn into the specialty; he does so by maintaining a fun workplace dynamic and a sense of camaraderie among colleagues.
Dr. Lepe is a third-year anatomic and clinical pathology resident at Brown University in Providence, Rhode Island, and will begin a fellowship in cytopathology in 2018. He serves as a member of the American Society of Cytopathology's Social Media Subcommittee and Website Committee, as a United States and Canadian Academy of Pathology (USCAP) ambassador and an USCAP Resident Advisory Committee member, and as the director of the Brown University Pathology Observership Program. Dr. Lepe also serves on the Graduate Medical Education Quality and Safety Committee at Rhode Island Hospital in Providence.
