2023 CAP Advocate of the Year Award

The College of American Pathologists (CAP) Advocate of the Year Award, established in 2018, recognizes outstanding accomplishments in advocacy on the CAP’s behalf in the legislative, regulatory, and/or political arenas. It is presented to a member who has made significant contributions to the CAP’s advocacy efforts and demonstrated dedication to helping achieve the CAP’s advocacy goals. The recipient will be a champion in the PathNET and PathPAC programs with involvement in advancing the CAP’s legislative and/or regulatory policy positions, engaging with elected officials at the federal and/or state level, regulatory agencies, and other entities to promote such policies, and/or participating in state pathology society or American Medical Association activities.

Kathryn T. Knight, MD, FCAP

The College of American Pathologists presents Kathryn T. Knight, MD, FCAP, with the 2023 CAP Advocate of the Year Award in recognition of her outstanding accomplishments in advocacy over the past years.

Throughout her involvement with the CAP, Dr. Knight has developed a track record of advancing health care policy and advocacy on behalf of pathology and is actively involved with a wide range of activities related to advancing the specialty. She is respected and recognized for advocacy accomplishments on behalf of pathology and has promoted improvements in health care for patients.

Dr. Knight has served as the Speaker of the House of Delegates and as an ex officio member of the Board of Governors. She is also an active member of the Council on Government and Professional Affairs and is a member of the PathPAC Board of Directors as well as chair of the CAP’s State Pathology Societies Initiative project team. She has previously served in other advocacy related leadership activities, including as chair of the Federal and State Affairs Committee, president of the Georgia Association of Pathologists, and as the CAP state issue advisor for Tennessee.

Dr. Knight is a senior advisor for PathGroup in Nashville, Tennessee, where she most recently served as medical director of women's health services and cytopathology. Prior to merging her practice with PathGroup, Dr. Knight served as laboratory medical director at Hamilton Medical Center in Dalton, Georgia, and as president of associates in laboratory medicine.
