2024 CAP Advocate of the Year Award

The College of American Pathologists (CAP) Advocate of the Year Award, established in 2018, honors George F. Kwass, MD, FCAP, and recognizes outstanding accomplishments in advocacy on the CAP’s behalf in the legislative, regulatory, and/or political arenas. It is presented to a member who has made significant contributions to the CAP’s advocacy efforts and demonstrated dedication to helping achieve the CAP’s advocacy goals. The recipient will be a champion in the PathNET and PathPAC programs with involvement in advancing the CAP’s legislative and/or regulatory policy positions, engaging with elected officials at the federal and/or state level, regulatory agencies, and other entities to promote such policies, and/or participating in state pathology society or American Medical Association activities.

Jonathan L. Myles, MD, FCAP

The College of American Pathologists presents Jonathan L. Myles, MD, FCAP, with the 2024 CAP Advocate of the Year Award in recognition of his more than 20 years of dedication to promoting fair and accurate payment and regulatory policies for pathologists.

Throughout his leadership in the CAP, Dr. Myles has shown a deep understanding of the complex health care policy landscape and a steadfast commitment to advocating for the interests of pathologists and patients alike. Experienced in both anatomic and clinical pathology, he has consistently advocated for policies that promote access to high-quality care and fair compensation for health care services, contributing to the sustainability of the health care system.

Within the CAP, Dr. Myles has served as chair of both the Economic Affairs Committee and the Council on Government and Professional Affairs, as well as serving two terms on the Board of Governors. A CAP media spokesperson and graduate of the Engaged Leadership Academy, Dr. Myles is a prior recipient of the Outstanding Service Award, as well as the Public Service Award—the CAP’s highest honor related to public service.

Outside the CAP, Dr. Myles has previously served as the pathology advisor to the American Medical Association’s Relative Value Update Committee

Dr. Myles is a pathologist at the Cleveland Clinic in Cleveland.
