- 2025 CAP Outstanding Educator Award
The College of American Pathologists (CAP) Outstanding Educator Award, established in 2018, recognizes outstanding performance and significant contributions in the advancement of professional development opportunities for pathologists and laboratory professionals. It is presented to an individual who has consistently demonstrated outstanding performance as faculty for a CAP education activity and/or has made outstanding contributions in the development of education activities for pathologists and/or laboratory professionals.
Cindy B. McCloskey, MD, FCAP
The College of American Pathologists presents Cindy B. McCloskey, MD, FCAP, with the CAP Outstanding Educator Award in recognition of her contributions to pathology through scholarly publications and national leadership.
Dr. McCloskey served on the CAP Graduate Medical Education Committee from 2013 to 2024, including terms as chair and advisor from 2020 to 2024. Through her leadership, she spearheaded the development of Entrustable Professional Activities (EPAs) for pathology, contributed to research on medical student exposure to pathology, and led studies to improve the understanding of the pathologist job market.
She has contributed to 21 publications addressing key aspects of medical education, professionalism, and workforce dynamics. Her work led to the introduction of competency-based medical education in pathology and the formulation of recommended EPAs for residency training, which now serve as a foundational tool for graduate medical education programs across the country.
In addition to her committee work, Dr. McCloskey served as vice chair of the CAP Future Pathologist Project Team, where she played a key role in shaping initiatives aimed at inspiring and supporting the next generation of pathologists.
Through her leadership, scholarly contributions, and dedication to education, Dr. McCloskey has had a lasting effect on the field of pathology.
Dr. McCloskey is a professor of pathology at The University of Oklahoma Health Sciences in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma.
